Travel Insurance Information

Participants are required to provide proof of insurance within 30 days before the retreat begins. Please review your policy to ensure all hiking activities and high-altitude trekking are covered.

Required Minimum Coverage Amounts
  • Medical Coverage: At least $100,000 for emergency medical care.

  • Evacuation/Repatriation: At least $250,000 for emergency evacuation.

Suggested Coverage

1. Medical Coverage:

  • Emergency Medical Expenses: Ensure the policy includes coverage for any injuries, illnesses, or medical emergencies that might occur during the retreat, especially in the event of a hiking-related injury.

  • Emergency Evacuation & Repatriation: In case of serious injury in a remote location, coverage for medical evacuation (e.g., by helicopter) is essential. Repatriation covers the cost of returning the participant to their home country if needed.

  • Altitude Sickness: Given the high altitudes, it's important the policy covers medical treatment for altitude-related conditions.

2. Trip Cancellation and Interruption:

  • Trip Cancellation: If the participant has to cancel the retreat due to illness, injury, or personal emergencies, the insurance should cover the cost of the retreat and related travel expenses.

  • Trip Interruption: In case the participant needs to leave the retreat early, this would cover the costs of the unused portion of the trip and any additional expenses to return home.

3. Adventure Sports Coverage:

  • Hiking and Trekking: Standard travel insurance may exclude high-risk activities, so ensure the policy explicitly covers hiking and trekking at altitudes. Check the specific altitude limit in the policy to ensure it's sufficient for your retreat.

4. Baggage and Personal Belongings:

  • Lost or Stolen Items: This would cover costs related to lost, stolen, or damaged luggage and personal items, which can be particularly important when traveling with gear for the retreat.

5. Travel Delays or Missed Connections:

  • Coverage for additional accommodation and meal costs if participants experience flight delays or miss connections due to weather or other issues.

Additional Recommendations

  • Cancellation for Any Reason (CFAR): This optional add-on allows participants to cancel their trip for reasons not covered under standard cancellation, though it can be more expensive.

  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D): In the unfortunate case of a severe accident, this coverage can provide financial compensation for serious injury or death.

Minimum Suggested Coverage Amounts

  • Medical Coverage: At least $100,000 for emergency medical care.

  • Evacuation/Repatriation: At least $250,000 for emergency evacuation.

  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption: The amount should cover the total trip cost (flights, retreat fees, accommodations, etc.).
