Travel Information
Location & How To Get There
The Dolomites are located in northeastern Italy in the Italian Alps. We will reside in Cortina d’Ampezzo, a small town in the heart of the southern Dolomites in Northern Italy in the Veneto region. The closest airport to Cortina is the Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE). It’s about 93 miles away, and about a 2-hour drive.
One shuttle from the Venice (VCE) airport will be organized by Retreat Savvy in the early afternoon (around 12:00 - 1:00 pm) of July 11, and one shuttle returning to the airport on July 18 between 8:00 - 10:00 am depending on flight times. Please note there there is a 2 hour drive to the airport.
Cost of Ground Transportation to and from VCE to our hotel in Cortina one way is approximately:
€ 240,00*, for up to 2-4 passengers
€ 270,00* for 5/6 passengers
€ 300,00* for 7/8 passengers
Add € 30,00 to total cost if picking up/dropping off in 2 different locations.
Cost will be split by the number of passengers in the van.
*Costs are subject to change.
Other Options to Get There:
In addition to private group ground transportation mentioned above, there are 2 express buses each day to take you directly from the airport into Cortina. From the Cortina Bus Station, the hotel is about 1 mile. Retreat Savvy can arrange for a Taxi to meet you there to take you to the hotel. A taxi from the bus station to the hotel is just a few minutes and about 15 euros.
The Cortina Express Bus schedule changes often,
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SCHEDULE CHANGES OFTEN AND USUALLY THEY RUN 1-2 BUSES EACH DAY, EACH WAY. Tickets go on sale about 17 days prior to travel. Retreat Savvy can organize private transport for those who wish to group together and share transport from Venice to Cortina on July 11 and 18. Please let Laura know your travel plans if you are interested in this private transportation.
Summer 2019* cost is 27 euros each way. Tickets can be purchased 14 - 17 days in advance. Purchase tickets at www.cortinaexpress.it
*The schedule and prices are subject to change in summer 2020. For most up to date information, please check www.cortinaexpress.it.
Car Rental
You may also prefer to rent a car but you do not need to. There is free parking at the hotel and at most of the trailheads. Having your own car will give you more flexibility to come and go as you please.
Other Airport Options
We highly recommend flying in and out of Venice or Treviso, and as a second choice, Bologna or Verona for the ease of ground transportation to Cortina via Cortina Express Bus (www.cortinaexpress.it). However, if you choose to fly in and out of a different airport, here is a list of the nearby airports and their distances to Cortina. Coming from any other airport not serviced by Cortina Express Bus, you will need to take a train, or two and a few buses to arrive Cortina, or rent a car.
